Club Nicknames: The club has a number of nicknames but perhaps the most common is "The Toffees" or "The Toffeemen." There are various stories of its origin but it is most likely named after Mother Noblett's toffee shop in Everton village which sold sweets including Everton Mints - thrown into the crowd before home games at Goodison Park.

History of Football: Everton FC

Origins: Everton Football Club was founded in 1878 as St Domingo’s (after the local Methodist Church), changing its name a year later to Everton F.C. They were founder members of the world's first football league in 1888. 

The club played its early games in the south-east corner of Stanley Park before moving to a field at Priory Road in 1883 and then another field between Anfield Road and Walton Breck Road – until Goodison Park was opened in 1892.
