History of Football: Arsenal FC

Origins: The club was founded in 1895 as Thames Ironworks F.C. and played their early games at the Memorial Grounds in Plaistow. The club acquired its home kit of claret shirts and sky blue sleeves in 1899 in a wager with Aston Villa players who were League Champions at that time.
One year later, in 1900, Thames Ironworks F.C. was disbanded but almost immediately relaunched as West Ham United F.C. In 1904 the club moved to the Boleyn Ground stadium in Upton Park.
