History of Football: Rangers FC

Origins: Rangers were founded after a meeting in March 1872 at West End Park (now known as Kelvingrove Park) in Glasgow. The club's four founders came from the Clydesdale Amateur Rowing Club - one of Scotland's oldest sporting clubs. They were Peter Campbell, William McBeath and the McNeil bothers, Peter and Moses. David Hill would subsequently become a fifth founder member. Rangers played their first official match - a friendly against Callender -  in May 1872 on Fleshers' Haugh, part of Glasgow Green, a park in the east end of the city.
