Team Nicknames: The England National Football Team's nickname is 'The Three Lions' after the lions' crest on the team's shirts.
Origins: The England National football team is governed by The Football Association (FA) which was formed in 1863 and is the world's oldest football association.
The England team was formed at the same time as the Scotland National team when the FA organised a representative match between England and Scotland on 5th March, 1870. Scottish football team representatives organised a return fixture on 30th November, 1872 at Hamilton Crescent in Scotland. This fixture is considered to be the first official international football match in history.
The FA is a member of both UEFA and FIFA. It holds a permanent seat on the International Football Association Board (IFAB) which is the body responsible for the laws of football.
